Our 2025 TEDxUniversityofJohannesburg theme is FUTURE ECHOES: The primary takeaway from the “Future Echoes” talk should be the profound impact of our current actions on the future, emphasising the importance of sustainability, ethical responsibility, and the legacy we leave behind. Every decision we make, every innovation we create, and every movement we start sends ripples into the future—shaping a world we may never see but will profoundly impact. Future Echoes challenges us to listen to the reverberations of today’s choices and consider how they will define tomorrow’s reality.
“Future Echoes” serves as a call to action, urging listeners to consider the legacy they are creating and to act with foresight and responsibility. By reflecting on the long-term impact of our current actions, we can work towards a sustainable, just, and ethically sound future.
What is TED
Established in 1984, TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. Three broad subject areas that collectively shape our future.
The event is still wider, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. The diverse audience CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists. But TED is about much more than famous names. It is about passion, laughter, beauty, ingenuity, and ideas capable of changing the world.

TEDxUniversityofJohannesburg will be a high-octane, community-driven, independently-organized TED Talk, licensed by TED New York to be held in the University of Johannesburg on the 8th of October 2025.
Our vision is to showcase the fascinating thinkers and leaders at UJ & South Africa. They will get together for an exciting day of presentations and discussions to inspire new ideas and opportunities across all disciplines.
